法人別リリース Wed, 04 Dec 2024 15:00:00 +0900 hourly 1 Korean Air Installs Komy’s Aircraft Mirrors /release/202411260630 Wed, 04 Dec 2024 15:00:00 +0900 KOMY Korean Air, a major South Korean flag carrier based in Seoul, has installed mirrors made by Komy Co.... Komy Co., Ltd.
Korean Air, a major South Korean flag carrier based in Seoul, has installed mirrors made by Komy Co., Ltd., headquartered in Kawaguchi, Saitama Prefecture, north of Tokyo, in the galley kitchens of Korean Air’s entire fleet of 158 aircraft. The installation of the ordered mirrors has been completed.

Korean Air deployed Komy’s mirrors in overhead stowage bins in 2012, and Komy has been receiving orders from them for new equipment ever since.

Korean Air has been conducting employee surveys with the goal of improving its operations. The surveys revealed that the cabin crew had to strain themselves in order to visually inspect the contents of the upper cabinets in the galley. Following this finding, Korean Air inquired with Komy in July 2023 about a possible solution to resolve this issue using mirrors.

In response, Komy proposed several types of mirrors featuring a design allowing the cabin crew to see the inside of the galley cabinets. After a field-of-view check, Komy successfully completed the mirror delivery to all 158 of Korean Air’s aircraft.

Komy has a track record of delivering mirrors for overhead stowage bins and cabin view monitoring. This deployment of mirrors by Korean Air marks the development of a new application for Komy. Although the company received similar requests from other airlines in the past, they only concerned select aircraft and were not a solution for all upper cabinets in an entire fleet of aircraft.

Komy believes that Korean Air’s efforts to improve the working environment of the cabin crew will become a crucial matter for many other airlines in the future.

Besides the above, Komy has developed and deployed various solutions for airlines, including CC Mirrors for the cabin crew to use to check their appearance and pressure gauges on onboard oxygen cylinders and TanaOS, a tool for checking if the overhead stowage bins are properly closed.

Komy is committed to improving the quality of its products to maintain safe and reliable aircraft operations. It is also striving to develop new products in addition to mirrors by listening to clients’ needs.

Komy Develops New "SPR" Mirror Applicable to Various Types of Aircraft Overhead Stowage Bins, Achieving Weight and Cost Reductions

Komy Co., Ltd. headquartered in Kawaguchi, Saitama Prefecture, Japan, has developed a new "SPR" model of its KomyMirror series for aircraft overhead stowage bins.

The new SPR is installable on side panels of stowage bins for various types of aircraft. Furthermore, it has become possible to install the mirror on either the left-side or right-side panel by changing the setting angle. In addition, the company has realized about 30% cost-cutting and weight reduction by reviewing materials and the manufacturing method.

The conventional KomyMirror has optimal product numbers for each type of aircraft overhead stowage bins. On the other hand, the SPR is an epoch-making mirror with only one product number to cover all types of stowage bins. Komy strongly recommends that carriers consider installing the SPR mirror.

South Korea's Jin Air Installs Komy's Aircraft Mirrors /release/202404028877 Fri, 12 Apr 2024 16:00:00 +0900 KOMY Jin Air Co., Ltd., a low-cost carrier (with an identifier of LJ/JNA) based in Seoul, South Korea, r... Komy Co., Ltd.
Jin Air Co., Ltd., a low-cost carrier (with an identifier of LJ/JNA) based in Seoul, South Korea, reached an agreement with Komy Co., Ltd. headquartered in Kawaguchi, Saitama Prefecture, Japan, to install KomyMirror in the overhead stowage bins for Jin Air's fleet of 22 aircraft. Jin Air just completed the mirror installation in February 2024.

Jin Air is one of carriers that fly to Japan, alongside Korean Air and Asiana Airlines.

Komy had been inquiring with Jin Air about the feasibility of employing mirrors through Korean Air, which had already installed mirrors. However, Komy learned that Jin Air was unsure if the installation cost would be worth its benefits. But later, Jin Air made a specific request to install the mirror, and Komy and Jin Air reached this agreement.

Jin Air deployed the mirror for a few reasons. The airline found out that some passengers and cabin crew were climbing on seats or armrests to check overhead stowage bins for forgotten items. This not only causes damage to the cabin equipment but also puts them at risk of falling from a higher place.

Jin Air learned that installing the mirror would enable passengers to inspect the bottoms of overhead stowage bins even while standing on the floor, allowing other passengers to exit smoothly and without being left waiting in the aisles.

Other airlines have reported that the mirror also assists cabin crew in detecting suspicious objects in the cabin before and after boarding at an early stage.

As a result of this agreement, Komy received an order to install the mirror on 18 Boeing 737 series aircraft and four 777s. Jin Air began to install the mirror in November 2023 for completion in February 2024.

Komy recommends that carriers install its mirrors and passengers try them aboard planes.

Jin Air is a leading low-cost carrier operating in Asia, affiliated with Korean Air. It was established in January 2008. Jin Air began its services to Japan in July 2011 on the Seoul-Sapporo (Shin-Chitose) route. At present, it operates on routes from major airports in Japan to Seoul and Busan. Also, it will operate flights to Shimojishima Airport on Miyakojima island from May.

The new lineup of safety mirrors for buildings is intended to prevent collisions in the corridors of offices as well as those at public and commercial facilities. These mirror products are popular in Japan as many industrial buildings and hospitals use them. There is demand for more than 2,000 units per year. In the United States, convex mirrors are commonly installed to prevent accidents caused by collisions in industrial buildings and hospitals. However, convex mirrors are typically installed at the ceiling level and can be inconvenient to use them. KomyMirrors are placed at eye level, and so the line of sight is convenient and easier to view.

Komy is the manufacturer of KomyMirror, the world's first flat mirror with a wide view to eliminate blind spots. Since 1997, Komy has shipped over 550,000 mirrors to airlines around the world, including Boeing and Airbus.

In the near future, Komy will be marketing these mirrors directly to property owners, building management companies, hospitals, schools, and other industrial and public facilities. Komy will also be actively seeking sales agents and distribution companies in the United States.

/img/201804193113-O1-RXMbb160

With its dedication to detail, Komy manufactures mirrors that eliminate blind spots. Komy first released its innovative KomyMirror, the first mirror in the world to provide a wide-angle view despite being flat, in 1997. Since then, the company has been shipping KomyMirrors for overhead bins on aircraft.

Instead of a mirror, the company has on this occasion created a tool to help cabin attendants -- a stick that has been perfected after many repetitions of trial and error and direct interviews with Japan Airlines’ cabin attendants. The TanaOS stick is extendable, measuring 19.1 cm long (39.2 cm when extended) and weighing 155 g. The name “TanaOS” (“tana” meaning a rack or shelf in Japanese) was given by Japan Airlines’ cabin attendants.

As part of their safety check routine, Japan Airlines’ cabin attendants make sure that overhead bins are properly closed before takeoff and landing so that the bins do not accidentally open due to the shock of takeoff or landing or by unexpected turbulence during flight, letting luggage fall onto passengers. Until now, cabin attendants had to stand on the steps on the seat and check each bin manually, but with TanaOS, they will be able to check bins more speedily without stepping into passengers’ space. It has also helped reduce the physical stress of cabin attendants who fly several domestic flights a day.

In future, Komy plans to offer TanaOS to other airlines, as well as developing non-mirror products that address other issues found during interviews with cabin attendants.

Triple Surface Area But Weighs Same!
- To Be First Installed on Airbus A320neo -

A new KomyMirror model, developed by Komy Co., Ltd., will be first installed in a new type of overhead stowage bins on the Airbus A320neo.

Komy first released its innovative KomyMirror -- the first mirror in the world to provide a wide-angle view despite being flat -- in 1997. Since then, the company has shipped 350,000 KomyMirrors for installation on aircraft. The new KomyMirror (patent pending) boasts three times the surface area of the conventional KomyMirror model while still weighing almost exactly the same.

While pursuing an ideal mirror for users of overhead stowage bins, Komy has also taken up the challenge of meeting Airbus's lightness requirements. The result is that the company has succeeded in developing a mirror that is thin enough even to be installed on curved surfaces; in other words, the form of KomyMirror will satisfy both users and the aircraft manufacturer.

The KomyMirror is installed as standard equipment on many new aircraft from the world's two largest aircraft manufacturers, Airbus and Boeing, and is used by more than 100 airlines around the world.

KomyMirror: This mirror, developed by Komy Co., Ltd., is the first in the world to provide a wide-angle view despite being flat. The KomyMirror is not only used in parking lots but in a wide range of other applications, such as for checking behind ATMs or station ticket machines, or to help people avoid walking into another person at junctions or turns in corridors.

Komy to Launch CC Mirror for Aircraft Cabin Crew in March
Komy Co., Ltd., a manufacturer of mirrors for aircraft overhead luggage compartments, will launch a new product named KomyMirror for Cabin Crew (hereinafter, "CC Mirror") in early March 2015.

Komy has developed CC Mirrors in collaboration with cabin crew members from Japan Airlines. Through interviews with the cabin crew, Komy learned what they wanted regarding mirrors for overhead luggage compartments:
(1) Compact enough to fit in their uniform pockets

These CC Mirrors are tailor-made for Japan Airlines as they use the company's logo and colors.

CC Mirrors can be customized to each airline's size, shape, color and logo requirements. This new product is expected to improve the service level and efficiency of airline cabin crew members.

KomyMirror for Aircraft Overhead Stowage Bins Surpasses 200,000 Units in Sales from First Delivery in 1997
Komy Co., Ltd. has surpassed the 200,000 mark in unit sales of KomyMirrors for overhead stowage bins in aircraft since first delivering the product in 1997, providing services to airlines and other customers. There has not been a single complaint from any customer!

Komy Co., Ltd. is the sole manufacturer of flat, wide-angle ultra-light mirrors in the world. Most of the mirrors are installed in overhead stowage bins to prevent passengers from accidentally leaving their belongings behind and to shorten the cabin inspection time during aircraft turn-around.

The flat, wide-angle mirrors are used in cabin overhead stowage bins by major airlines such as United Airlines, Singapore Airlines, Lufthansa, Emirates, Cathay Pacific Airways, and LCCs such as Southwest Airlines, flydubai and so on. More than 60 airlines have installed the mirrors in their overhead stowage bins. KomyMirrors have been adopted as a standard item for Airbus A380 and Boeing 787.

Komy Receives Order for Overhead Compartment Mirrors from Lufthansa for Boeing 747-8 Intercontinenta
Komy Co., Ltd. is pleased to announce that it has received an order for the KomyMirror series of mirrors for cabin overhead compartments from Lufthansa for use on new Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental passenger aircraft.

Lufthansa, which has seven aircraft of the 747-8 model on order, already has five of them in operation. Lufthansa decided to install the KomyMirror for the upper deck of the aircraft. The KomyMirror is installed because smaller persons may not be able to see behind the "threshold" of overhead compartments.

Lufthansa has installed the KomyMirror for other aircraft such as 757, 737, A319, A320, A321, A330 and A380 since 2011.
