ROHM's latest product builds upon the first-generation MUS-IC (TM) BD34301EKV, renowned for its sound quality and adoption in high-end models. The BD34302EKV inherits the core design concept behind ROHM's DAC chip, which emphasizes natural flat sound. By integrating the three elements of spatial reverberation, quietness, and dynamic range from the MUS-IC (TM) series, it authentically reproduces the "texture" of musical instruments for an even more realistic audio experience.

In monaural mode, which allocates one DAC chip per channel, ROHM's proprietary HD (high definition) monaural mode contributes to smoother, more natural sound. As part of the MUS-IC (TM) series, uncompromising craftsmanship has been applied down to the smallest details. Based on years of expertise in sound quality design, the optimal bonding wire material for each terminal of the BD34302EKV was selected to accurately convey the natural "texture" of musical instruments. These features help create the ideal sound sought by high-end audio manufacturers.

LiDAR adoption has increased across various automation-focused applications, driving demand for high-performance laser diodes capable of achieving kW-level outputs. These diodes must emit light at close intervals for enhanced detection accuracy over longer distances.

ROHM’s patented technology delivers narrow laser emission widths, supporting high-accuracy, long-distance LiDAR systems. Building on this, the new RLD8BQAB3 introduces a 125W, 8-channel (1kW-class) array design to meet growing market demand for compact, high-performance solutions.

This ultra-compact (3.3mm × 5.6mm) surface-mount infrared laser diode is optimized for Time of Flight (ToF) systems. It features 8 emission areas (each 300 micrometers wide) per element, mounted on a high-heat-dissipation submount. A clear glass cap, an industry first for surface-mount laser diodes, ensures high beam quality by preventing light scattering caused by scratches, a common issue in resin-encapsulated designs.

The product also enables flexible irradiation options, including individual and simultaneous emissions, achieving industry-leading* 1kW-class output. Additional features include uniform emission intensity across the emission width and a low wavelength temperature dependence of 0.1nm/degrees Celsius (compared with 0.26 to 0.28 nm/degrees Celsius for standard products), significantly outperforming conventional solutions.

*ROHM’s January 7, 2025 study

The array configuration reduces emission gaps between channels, while a bandpass filter, which allows only signals in a specific light wavelength band to pass through, minimizes ambient light interference, enhancing long-distance detection and high-definition LiDAR functionality.

ROHM Develops Industry's Smallest CMOS Op Amp Optimized for Smartphones and IoT Devices /release/202407193832 Thu, 01 Aug 2024 15:00:00 +0900 ROHM ROHM Co., Ltd. has developed an ultra-compact 1.8V to 5V rail-to-rail CMOS operational amplifier (o... ROHM Co., Ltd.
ROHM Co., Ltd. has developed an ultra-compact 1.8V to 5V rail-to-rail CMOS operational amplifier (op amp), the TLR377GYZ, which is the smallest in the industry as of August 1, 2024 (ROHM study). It is optimized for amplifying signals from sensors such as temperature, pressure, and flow rate as well as in smartphones, small IoT devices, and similar applications.

The size of smartphones and IoT devices continues to decrease, requiring smaller components. To accurately amplify small signals as needed in high-precision sensing, op amps must improve low input offset voltage and noise performance while continuing to shrink the form factor.

The TLR377GYZ successfully balances miniaturization with high accuracy (a challenge for conventional op amps) by further evolving proprietary circuit design, process, and packaging technologies cultivated over many years.

Op amps' input offset voltage and noise generation degrade amplification accuracy and can be suppressed by increasing the size of built-in transistors, but at the expense of miniaturization. In response, ROHM developed proprietary circuits which achieve a maximum offset voltage as low as 1mV without increasing the size of transistors with greatly reducing flicker noise, while ultra-low noise is achieved with an input equivalent noise voltage density of 12 nV/square root Hertz by optimizing the resistive components at the element level. Furthermore, the new product adopts a WLCSP (Wafer Level Chip Scale Package) with a ball pitch of just 0.3mm, utilizing original packaging technology. This reduces size by approximately 69% compared to conventional products and 46% over existing compact products.

The IC-mounted conversion board that can replace SSOP6 packages is also offered to support replacement considerations and initial evaluation. Both the new product and conversion board are available for purchase through online distributors. Additionally, the high-accuracy SPICE model, called ROHM Real Model, is available on ROHM's website for verification simulations.

- Industry-leading* Power Density Achieved by Integrating 4th Generation SiC MOSFETs in Compact Package -

ROHM Co., Ltd. has developed four models as part of the TRCDRIVE pack (TM) series with 2-in-1 SiC molded modules (two of 750V-rated: BSTxxxD08P4A1x4, two of 1,200V-rated: BSTxxxD12P4A1x1) optimized for xEV (electric vehicles) traction inverters. TRCDRIVE pack (TM) supports up to 300kW and features high-power-density and a unique terminal configuration, helping solve the key challenges of traction inverters in terms of miniaturization, higher efficiency, and fewer person-hours.

As the electrification of cars rapidly advances towards achieving a decarbonized society, the development of electric powertrain systems that are more efficient, compact, and lightweight is currently progressing. However, for SiC power devices that are attracting attention as key components, achieving low loss in a small size has been a difficult challenge. ROHM solves these issues inside powertrains with its TRCDRIVE pack (TM).

A trademark brand for ROHM SiC molded type modules developed specifically for traction inverter drive applications, TRCDRIVE pack (TM) reduces size by utilizing a unique structure that maximizes heat dissipation area. On top, ROHM’s 4th Generation SiC MOSFETs with low ON resistance are built in, resulting in an industry-leading power density level 1.5 times higher than that of general SiC molded modules while greatly contributing to the miniaturization of inverters for xEVs.

The modules are also equipped with control signal terminals using press fit pins enabling easy connection by simply pushing the gate driver board from the top, reducing installation time considerably. In addition, low inductance (5.7nH) is achieved by maximizing the current path and utilizing a two-layer bus-bar structure for the main wiring, contributing to lower losses during switching.

In recent years, the number of onboard power supply systems and functions continues to grow as electrification in the automotive industry progresses. This increases demand for primary LDOs that can directly step down the battery voltage to MCUs and other components used in ECUs. However, the energy supplied by the vehicle’s lead-acid battery is often subject to sudden voltage fluctuations, which primary LDOs are required to provide with excellent line-transient response in these conditions.

At the same time, ECUs and other downstream devices often experience load current variations during operation, which also demand excellent load-transient response characteristics. A high-frequency response is essential for fast output voltage recovery, but it has been difficult to provide sufficient phase margin at the same time to ensure stable operation. In response, ROHM developed a novel solution that addresses these challenges.

The BD9xxM5-C incorporates original QuiCur(TM) high-speed load response technology that delivers excellent response characteristics to load current fluctuations. For example, the LDO can maintain output to within 100mV of set voltage even as the load changes between 0 and 500mA in 1-microsecond (rise-time/fall-time). Furthermore, low 9.5-microampere (typ.) current consumption contributes to lower power consumption in automotive applications. These new products will be available in four packages, ranging from the compact HTSOP-J8 to the high heat dissipation TO252 and HRP5 types. This allows users to select the most suitable package for each use case.

ROHM will continue to improve reliability while reducing power consumption in automotive applications by developing products utilizing its strengths in analog and other technologies.
