Founded in 1912, Shanghai Maritime University (SMU) is one of China's leading maritime universities in the development of forwarding management personnel, having been the first Chinese university to establish departments in transportation-related fields (transportation, shipping management, logistics management and transport engineering).
 
NX China and NX Shanghai established a scholarship fund in January 2016 and concluded a memorandum of understanding with SMU to provide scholarships over a period of 10 years. This year was the ninth in which these scholarships were offered, and 10 SMU students selected as scholarship recipients attended the award ceremony. The work experience program is part of the NX Group’s efforts to actively communicate with local communities and engage in community-based social contribution activities, recognizing its social and public mission as a logistics company.
 
Eighty students enrolled in CUTe’s Department of Marketing and Logistics took part in the program at NX Taiwan's NEXT1 warehouse in Taoyuan City, where they received briefings from NEXT1 staff on basic logistics knowledge, safety, and warehouse operations. Through a combination of classroom lectures and hands-on experience, the students learned in depth about how warehouse operations are carried out.
 
The participants found the program a valuable opportunity to expand their practical knowledge and understanding of the logistics industry, with one commenting: "This experience has given me a deeper understanding of warehouse management and logistics, and strengthened my desire to work in the logistics industry, where I can contribute to society in the future."

Heavy rains in Bangladesh that began in mid-August caused extensive flood damage across the country’s eastern region, impacting more than 5.8 million people. Highways and railway networks were damaged, and some areas saw mobile networks and other communications disrupted, leaving more than one million people isolated in locales cut off by the floodwaters.
 
NX Bangladesh carried out a relief distribution program in the six sub-districts of Feni District, one of the hardest-hit districts. Four employees transported relief supplies to areas lacking clean water and food due to flooded roads. Working with residents, they provided foodstuffs, emergency medicines, oral rehydration solution, drinking water, and other supplies to approximately 100 households. Ten members of the NX Group won top prizes at the 56th National Truck Driver Contest, held on October 26-27, including the Prime Minister's Award and first-place awards. NX Group members won three awards in the 4-ton Division, three in the 11-ton Division, three in the Trailer Division, and one in the women's division.
 
The competition, sponsored by the Japan Trucking Association, took place at the Japan Safe Driving Center in Hitachinaka City, Ibaraki Prefecture. Designed to allow competitors to demonstrate the advanced driving skills required of commercial truck drivers as well as their specialized knowledge of related laws and regulations, vehicle structures, etc., the contest brought together 142 winners of prefectural-level competitions to determine the best truck drivers in Japan.
 
The achievements for NX Group members followed a pair of top prizes at the 39th National Forklift Truck Driving Competition, held at the Chubu Truck Training Center in Aichi Prefecture on September 28-29. NX Group members won both the general division and the women's division, and six employees placed high in total, demonstrating the safety awareness and driving skills they have cultivated at the NX Group.
 
Guided by the motto "Safety takes precedence over everything else," the NX Group has established an internal certification system to ensure the quality of its drivers. Hochschule Bremerhaven established a Department of Logistics in 1976, and it places great importance on producing excellent students through a variety of international programs.
 
This visit originated with a request to NX Germany from the Verein der Wirtschaftsingenieure fur Transportwesen (VdWT) (Association of Industrial Engineers for Transportation) to coordinate a visit to Nippon Express logistics facilities in Japan. VdWT was founded in 1983 by professors and students of Hochschule Bremerhaven’s Department of Logistics to support networking between the university and the logistics industry.
 
Twenty-three people participated in the tour, visiting Nippon Express business locations near Narita Airport. Founded in 1980, BWU is a university specializing in logistics and distribution, and about 8,000 students are enrolled in its 28 departments of nine undergraduate faculties. One of these faculties, the School of Logistics established in 2006, ranks among China’s best in the field, offering well-equipped educational facilities and a favorable research environment.
 
NX China signed a letter of intent on strategic cooperation with BWU in 2012, and has since continued industrial-academic collaboration efforts that include offering NX Scholarships, presenting endowed lectures and organizing tours of logistics sites.

Central Taiwan has seen a rapid increase in logistics demand in recent years due to the flourishing production of high value-added products such as semiconductor-manufacturing equipment, precision equipment components, and biotechnology products. Indiana is known as the pharmaceutical manufacturing capital of the Midwest and is home to numerous pharmaceutical-related companies. This facility will comprise a constant-temperature area (15-25C, approximately 14,784m2) and a refrigerated area (2-8C, approximately 3,716m2), and will be equipped with cutting-edge equipment such as temperature monitoring systems and generators that can handle power outages and other problems to provide safe and high-quality pharmaceutical logistics services. With operations scheduled to start in October, the renovations are due to be completed by the end of September.

NX Philippines conducted this tree planting activity in the mountains of Tanay's Santo Nino district in aid of a large-scale city-run mountain reforestation project to plant trees on 7.1 million hectares by 2028 pursuant to Presidential Executive Order No. 193 ("Expanding the Coverage of the National Greening Program"). Twenty-six employees from NX Philippines participated in the event, working with members of the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) to plant 500 saplings of native Philippine tree species such as alibangbang, oak and fruit trees. The saplings planted are expected to contribute to local reforestation, biodiversity protection and climate change mitigation.

The Korea-Hokuriku (Japan) Economic Exchange Conference is one of the leading regional economic exchange events between South Korea and Japan. Hosted by South Korea’s Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Chubu Bureau of Economy, Trade and Industry, part of Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, this 20th conference, the first in six years, was held on the theme of "promoting Korea-Japan interregional exchange." The conference was attended by over 130 participants from both countries, including Japanese representatives from the Chubu Bureau of Economy, Trade and Industry, the three prefectures of the Hokuriku region, relevant economic organizations and private companies, as well as South Korean representatives from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, four local governments, the Japan-Korea Economic Association, business groups, companies, universities and research institutions.
 
During the logistics section, NX Korea President Masami Akiyama gave a presentation on "Logistics Cooperation between the Three Hokuriku Prefectures and Korea" that attracted much attention from the visitors. He specifically introduced a scheme being pursued by NX Korea that leverages the hub functions of the Port of Busan to address various issues facing the logistics industry, including Japan's "2024 problem," and discussed using the Port of Busan as one option for the three major Hokuriku ports and other regional ports in Japan in readying themselves for future changes in supply chains.

This event was organized by the Workplace Accident Compensation Fund of the Thai Ministry of Labour’s Social Security Office to promote occupational safety and health as well as work environment improvement. The event featured a safety seminar and an award ceremony for workplace accident reduction model companies, and was attended by approximately 600 participants, including senior political and administrative officials from the Ministry of Labour, executives from the Social Security Office, other government officials, and representatives from various companies.
 
Awardee companies were selected for meeting three criteria -- zero occupational accidents between 2019 and 2023, strict compliance, and good relations between the company and its employees -- and placed in one of three categories by size. NX Engineering Thailand was recognized as a workplace accident reduction model company in the category of small companies with fewer than 50 employees.

Background
Japan’s logistics industry is anticipating a future labor shortage of truck drivers and warehouse staff due to stricter overtime regulations for truck drivers that took effect in April 2024, compounding the pressures already being exerted by a population decline stemming from a falling birthrate and an aging population. Given these circumstances, improving productivity through the introduction of advanced technologies and securing human resources have become major issues.
 
In response to the changing times and environment surrounding the logistics industry, the NX Group is working to improve workplace environments by promoting the introduction of advanced logistics robots and work-assistance equipment that reduce employees’ workloads. Project overview
Nippon Express has launched the "NX Universal Harmonious Work Warehouse" project with the aim of removing barriers for people who have had difficulty working in warehouses by introducing advanced logistics robots and work aids, and thereby improving work environments.
 
As the first phase of this project, the Company will be introducing short-range mobility systems from WHILL Inc. of Tokyo to ease workloads and improve productivity. By linking these next-generation mobility systems with automated guided vehicles (AGVs), autonomous mobile robots (AMRs), and other unmanned transport equipment, it will even be possible for people with walking difficulties to perform picking and other warehouse operations.
 
Furthermore, the Company has partnered with Mirairo Inc., an Osaka-based provider of universal design solutions that utilize the perspectives of a diversity of working people, to foster awareness and pave the way for the acceptance of diverse work styles (*).
 
Nippon Express will gradually expand this initiative to multiple locations and constructing "Universal Harmonious Work Warehouses" capable of accommodating even greater diversity. It will also aim to turn its know-how into solution services at some point in the future.
