Hakuho Foundation, a public interest incorporated foundation, began accepting
applications for the 8th Hakuho Japanese Language Research Fellowship Program on
September 3.
Program objectives
The Hakuho Japanese Language Research Fellowship Program aims to enhance the
fundamentals of research into the Japanese language and Japanese-language
instruction and to promote the deepening and application to practical use of
such research both in Japan and abroad by inviting leading international
researchers to Japan to conduct research as residents.
Eligibility
Researchers to whom all of the following apply:
-- Engaged in research into the Japanese language or Japanese-language
instruction.
-- University professors or associate professors with outstanding research
results, or other persons with equivalent research backgrounds.
-- Non-Japanese nationality. (Japanese nationals who have resided outside Japan
for 10 years or more and are active in the academic community of their
country of residence will also be considered)
-- Those able to visit Japan alone. (The grant is intended for researchers.
Accompanying family members cannot be accommodated)
Schedule
Application period: September 3-October 31, 2012
Notification of results: Mid-January 2013 (tentative)
Fellowship period: October 1, 2013-September 30, 2014
(Long-term fellowships: 1 year; short-term fellowships: 6 months)

Supplemental information
-- Seven researchers from six countries were invited to the 6th Hakuho Japanese
Language Research Fellowship Program. They are scheduled to present final
reports of their findings in late September 2012.
-- Seven researchers from seven countries were invited to the 7th Hakuho
Japanese Language ResearchFellowship Program. They will begin
research at their receiving institutions from October 2012.
