CAMPUS ASIA Joint Intensive Program in Tokyo and Nagasaki

On August 10, students participating in the Campus Asia Joint Intensive Program will give presentations on the final product of their group work, which is a page of a joint history book describing the month of August 1945.

Differences in history recognition have long caused conflict among Japan, China, and Korea. The Campus Asia Joint Intensive Program is a summer course examining what history is by taking post-war narratives in East Asia. Participating students from Waseda, Peking, and Korea University will have spent eight days together to explore how history is publicly, collectively, and individually constructed, deconstructed, and reconstructed again through a set of highly interactive and participatory learning methods employed in the program, including facilitated discussions and group work. Furthermore, the students have gone on fieldwork to Nagasaki, where they have visited Gunkanjima, the Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Museum and the National Peace Memorial Hall, as well as have met students from Nagasaki University and a hibakusha, an atomic bomb survivor. The presentations on the final day of the program will be an opportunity for students to present their joint product: a page of a fictious history textbook describing the month of August, 1945.

We invite all interested journalists and media to attend the presentations.
