You can enjoy experiencing how Edo-period people saw samurai and their appearance as Hokusai and his pupils depicted them, " Hokusai and the Samurai World " in The Sumida Hokusai Museum Special Exhibition. This exhibition presents works depicting samurai, but not just famous warriors such as Minamoto no Yoritomo and Tokugawa Ieyasu. To Hokusai, who lived the Edo period, samurai were a familiar presence. These samurai also include people who lived, during two and a half centuries of peace, beside Hokusai and his pupils in the city of Edo, samurai as those artists saw them. Works depicting both actual battles and battle scenes as described in tales are also on display.
